Coaches Information
Bobcat Basketball Club strives to help coaches focus on skill development across all teams. We strive for continuity amongst our coaches to ensure similar skills are taught across all teams which gives players the same opportunity to grow their game. Strong continuity is very important as players move onto tournament season.

Offense Information

Spacing and When to cut (staying 10-15 feet apart)

​Spacing off drives - "Lane is Lava" drill

Attack to the open space and 3-4 dribbles max (then need to be shooting or passing)

When attacking, if I see chest I need to pass, if I see shoulder I keep going

Cut when my defender loses sight of me and always cut toward my basket to get open

Chest should be facing my basket as often as possible
Defense Information

Only man-to-man defense should be taught and played

Back should be facing basket

Defensive players' chest should always be facing towards the play they are guarding
Always move when the ball moves - dribbled or passed (either getting closer to my man or basket depending on which way ball is going) -
Positioned between man and basket

Defensive players must see both basketball and their man at all times.

In right help side positions (i.e. 1 pass away should be filling gap, 2 passes away one foot in lane, 3 passes away on help/rim line)

Ball is most important thing to get stopped - no one scores without the ball

Run shell drill every practice to emphasize proper help defense positioning

Teams outside of Benton

We DO accept teams to participate in our fall league that are not in the Benton School District
-

Recreational level youth league focusing on learning and development of the game

Entry fee is $200 per team-10 game schedule, 2 officials per game, game gym space​

Fall League games are played in November and December
-
League Teams will play 2 games(10 games total) on each of the weekends:

Most games are on Saturdays, but some may be on Sundays afternoons ​

November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd

December 7th, 14th

All games are played in Van Horne at the Benton Community High School

There are separate divisions for boys and girls ages 1st grade - 6th grade
-
The season will be completed by end of December (No games will be played on Thanksgiving weekend or holidays)

Each team will play against teams from Benton and surrounding areas

Teams who commit to playing a full league season (Which is 5 weeks) will receive priority
-
Games are played on full size courts, with two officials assigned to each game
